Essential Oils for Mental Health

You know how I keep saying that God provides all we need for help and healing? Foods, supplements, and every element of His great creation has provable benefits for our physical, mental and spiritual health. One of my favorite tools to address symptoms of anxiety, depression and ADHD is essential oils.

I buy my oils exclusively from Plant Therapy. It’s a small company in my home state, run by a drive to produce the highest quality oils for you and your family for an affordable price. Their KidSafe line in particular is a favorite. It was formulated by Robert Tisserand, who is one of the world’s leading experts in aroma therapy. I trust their products, and they have worked very well for my family.

(I am an affiliate partner with Plant Therapy, so if you purchase through the links in this post, I will receive a small commission).

So here are some of my favorite oils alongside of the issues they address:

  • Attention Problems: Vetiver, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile. I love Plant Therapy’s A+ Attention KidSafe Oil .
  • Depression: Citrus smells have been proven to lift mood. Sweet Orange, Lemon, and Grapefruit are a few favorites. Basil, Frankincense and Neroli are good as well.
  • Anxiety: Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Roman Chamomile, Vanilla. Plant Therapy’s Calming the Child Kidsafe Oil is wonderful.
  • Insomnia/Sleep problems: Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Lavender, Mandarin, and Patchouli to name a few. I particularly like this Sleep Tight Roll-on (for adults only). If you want to help your child, Lavender is a great option to diffuse in their rooms, or this Nighty-Night synergy blend.

My favorite mode of usage for my family is diffusing. If an oil is very mild (like lavender), I will apply onto the balls of their feet to help the kids relax. For the most part, though, I don’t use oils topically for my children. I never use oils internally for myself or my children. I recommend using Robert Tisserand’s site and the website Using Essential Oils Safely to research safe application of oils. I hope you find the addition of essential oils to your mental health treatment as beneficial as I have for myself and my family!
